The Rev. Kate Bradwell of Eastern Parkway United Methodist Church in Schenectady has been recognized as the recipient of the New York State Center for Assisted Living (NYSCAL) Volunteer of the Year Award as NYSCAL celebrates 25 years.

The award honors individuals whose volunteer service has made a significant contribution to the quality of life of residents in assisted living communities throughout New York State. Pastor Kate was nominated by the leadership and staff of Kingsway Manor, where she provides worship leadership, pastoral care, visitation, and spiritual support to residents.

In reflecting on the honor, Pastor Kate expressed gratitude to Kingsway Manor for the nomination and, even more, for the opportunity to serve its residents.

"One of the greatest joys of ministry is building relationships and walking alongside people through the seasons of life," she shared. "I am deeply grateful for the residents of Kingsway Manor and for all they have taught me."

Pastor Kate also emphasized that the award reflects the commitment of Eastern Parkway United Methodist Church to ministries of presence and service beyond the church building.

"This recognition belongs not only to me, but to a congregation that believes in being the church beyond the walls," she said. "Eastern Parkway continually supports ministries that show up, listen, care, and build relationships in the community. I am grateful to serve alongside people who understand the power of faithful presence."

While honored by the recognition, Pastor Kate remains most thankful for the relationships formed through this ministry and for the opportunity to share God's love with the Kingsway Manor community.
