ABOUT
The Upper New York (UNY) Conference equips and supports local churches in their mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ and serve their communities. As part of the Susquehanna & Upper New York Episcopal Area of The United Methodist Church, we work together to strengthen ministries, encourage spiritual growth, and engage in meaningful outreach.

BISHOP HÉCTOR A. BURGOS-NÚÑEZ
The Rev. Héctor A. Burgos-Núñez was elected bishop on November 4, 2022, at the Northeastern Jurisdictional Conference of The United Methodist Church held in College Park, Maryland. He is the first Hispanic-Latino bishop in the Northeastern Jurisdiction and the first Puerto Rican bishop in The United Methodist Church.

VISION & STRATEGY
The 2025 Upper New York Annual Conference approved a Strategic Visioning and Planning Process to discern a Spirit-led, forward-looking roadmap for shared ministry.
This process will gather broad input, assess our strengths and opportunities, explore collaboration with the Susquehanna Conference, and develop a Ministry Action Plan, including vision, values, needed shifts, and strategic goals, or presentation at the 2026 Annual Conference.

DISTRICTS
As a large Conference with over 600 churches and New Faith Communities, district connection and leadership is of the highest importance to United Methodists of Upper New York. It is the role of the annual conference to walk alongside the local church in making disciples by providing support, encouragement, and connection. The means by which this is done is often though the districts.

DEPARTMENTS
The Upper New York Conference is a not-for-profit religious organization. The Conference Office is comprised of the Episcopal Office, Communications, Finance & Administration, Human Resources & Benefits, and the Missional Excellence Team. These areas are working together to connect our community of faith, providing essential information to support our ministries and facilitate collaboration.

GENERAL & NEJ CONFERENCE
General Conference is The United Methodist Church's highest decision-making body, gathering global delegates every four years to set church-wide policies and update the Book of Discipline. The Northeastern Jurisdictional Conference (NEJ) meets after General Conference and includes delegates from annual conferences across the Northeast, including Upper New York. Its primary responsibilities are electing and assigning bishops and supporting regional ministry. Together, they guide the Church’s direction globally and regionally.
