What if a warm welcome could help someone feel more comfortable, connected, and ready to participate in the life of your church?


A new resource from Missional Excellence is designed to help make that happen. Great Greeting: A 30-Minute Training for the Ministry of Welcome equips congregations to help every person who enters their church experience kindness, dignity, belonging, and the love of God.


This ready-to-use training provides practical tools to help greeters remove barriers and create a welcoming environment where people can more fully participate in worship and community. This training can be done at your convenience in a location of your choice with or without a pastor. Everything you need is in this downloadable training packet.


Within this 30-minute training, pastors, worship leaders, hospitality coordinators, and greeter teams can explore five simple practices for creating a meaningful welcome:


  • Be in the Right Place – Be visible, approachable, and clear of the path. 

  • Introduce Yourself – Offer a warm greeting and share your name. 

  • Notice and Include – Pay attention to those who may not yet feel connected. 

  • Personalize – Follow a person's cues and match their comfort level. 

  • Follow Through – Offer help, make introductions, and welcome them back. 


The Great Greeting training packet includes everything needed to get started, including a facilitator guide, participant worksheet, scenario practice cards, and a quick-reference card. The resource helps greeters offer warmth without pressure and assistance without assumptions—recognizing that every person's needs and comfort level may be different.
