Red Bird Mission #668
Endwell United Methodist Church was a drop-off site for shoeboxes for several years. The first trip to the Red Bird Mission in Beverly, Kentucky opened their eyes and hearts to the depth of poverty experienced by people living in this area of the country.
Each year, as more churches have become aware of this mission, there has been an increase in the number of donations, which has been a true blessing.
However, the cost of transporting over 2500 shoeboxes filled with personal hygiene items for children and adults, along with items, such as new bedding, towels, backpacks filled with school supplies, diapers, and handmade hats, scarves, and mittens has increased, as well.
In 2024 the cost to transport donations collected throughout Upper New York State was $13,500, which covered the rental for two 26-foot trucks, fuel, lodging and meals for the drivers.
This special delivery ministry is totally on monetary donations and the help of many volunteers to carry out this mission. It is expected that the cost for the trip to Kentucky in late November will be even greater due to the present world situation.
Fundraising Goal: $8,000
