The Upper New York Conference of The United Methodist Church

Conference Council on Youth Ministry (CCYM)

    Conference Council on Youth Ministries

CCYM (Conference Council on Youth Ministries) is a leadership team comprised of youth from throughout the Upper New York Conference. With the support of adult coordinators each youth works through a team of their choice to design and present events to help guide youth on their personal spiritual journey.

This group of young people in grade 7-12 have the opportunity to express themselves and make new friends. They are welcomed with open arms and accepted and loved. Not only are they a leadership team, but a family joined by the everlasting bonds of friendship.

    Spring Events

CCYM does it again!!! Since last fall’s gatherings at Skye Farm, Asbury, and Casawasco were so successful in helping our Camp and Retreat Centers prepare for winter, it was decided to do it again this spring to help them get ready for summer.

In addition to the day-long Youth Group clean up events at Skye Farm and Asbury in May, CCYM held an overnight each weekend to regroup and share in person.

The Spring Event at Skye Farm took place May 14 – 15. Youth Groups and their leaders arrived at 10:00 AM on Saturday. We started with worship at their chapel by the lake. After worship, separate groups performed activities including moving the kayaks from a barn to the racks by the lake and cleaning up the downed sticks, etc. on the trails so people didn’t trip or fall. A great lunch was shared having been made by the lovely staff. We then split into two groups with one group going to a different lodging area to help move wood out of the woodshed as well as raking leaves to help make the volleyball court usable while another group moved mattresses from Kessley Hall into the cabins. When the two groups reunited at the end of the day, we had closing worship and sang some favorite songs. We finished up, said our goodbyes and left around 3:30 PM.

Thanks to all for the fun and productive time at Skye Farm Camp & Retreat Center.

The Spring Event at Asbury took place May 21 – 22. Youth Groups and their leaders arrived at 10:00 AM on Saturday. We started the day with worship at the outdoor chapel, then we played some ice breakers. We then broke into several different groups. One group went down to the lake and cleaned the kayaks, another cleaned up paths and another planted flowers. Then we all shared a delicious lunch made by the wonderful Asbury staff.  After lunch we regrouped with one group raking leaves and helping clean the volleyball court, another moving the kayaks back under a tarp, trimming thorn brushes and putting wood into a truck to be moved. Later we all came together again to move the wood from the truck into stacks in the shed. At the end of the day we sang some fun songs, prayed together and shared our experiences.

Thanks so much to all for the fun and productive time at Asbury Retreat Center.
