Social Holiness (Church & Society)
The intent of this group is to provide, within the bounds of the Upper New York Annual Conference, for certain of the functions described and suggested in The Book of Discipline, ¶629, specifically those functions related to ministries of justice, advocacy, mercy, love, and ministries related to the “Social Principles” of The United Methodist Church (¶¶160-166).
Members shall be nominated and elected at Annual Conference sessions immediately following the General Conference or as needed to fill vacancies, in such a manner as to maintain continuity and satisfy term limits. Ex-officio members with vote shall include representatives from the various Conference advocacy groups and various social action ministries, and elected members of the General Board of Church and Society. The Director of Connectional Ministries shall serve ex-officio without vote, and shall provide staff support.
The Social Holiness Team administers the Peace with Justice Grant Program. This program is supported by one half the money collected by the Peace with Justice Special Sunday Offering taken by each congregation. The other half of the collection is remitted to the General Board of Church and Society to support their global grant program.
