    2024 General Conference

    United Methodist General Conference 2024

General Conference is scheduled for April 23-May 3, 2024 at the Charlotte Convention Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. Originally scheduled for 2020, it's been postponed three times due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In March 2023, the Judicial Council ruled that annual conferences were "permitted to hold elections to fill vacancies in the General Conference delegation due to death, resignations, or otherwise, up to the maximum number of allocated delegates, provided vacancies cannot be filled with reserve delegates." As a result, the Upper New York Conference will be voting at the 2023 Annual Conference to elect two lay delegates. Click here to learn more about the process.

General Conference was originally scheduled for May 5-15, 2020 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In May 2021, it was moved to August 29 – Sept. 7, 2021 in Minneapolis. The Commission determined that it was not feasible to safely hold an in-person meeting involving all delegates even in 2021. It was further postponed until August 29 – September 6, 2022 due to visa concerns for delegate presence and participation from around the world along with coronavirus concerns.

With more than 100,000 members, United Methodists of Upper New York comprises of more than 675 local churches and New Faith Communities in 12 districts, covering 48,000 square miles in 49 of the 62 counties in New York state. Our vision is to “live the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to be God’s love with our neighbors in all places."
