Finding harmony with the United Methodist brand

December 17, 2015 / By Stephen J. Hustedt / .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

Two years ago, the Upper New York Conference Communications Ministry Area tried something new. It sponsored a contest that decided the new UNY Conference logo. It was a great success; entries were received from across the Conference and beyond. The end result was a lot of spirited voting, improved engagement from our audience, and a nice new logo.

At nearly the same time that the Communications Ministry Area was running the contest, United Methodist Communications (UMCom) and the General Commission on Finance and Administration (GCFA) were working on a series of branding guidelines for all levels of The United Methodist Church. When the guidelines were shared with communicators, it was clear that the new UNY Conference logo was not exactly what was recommended by UMCom and the GCFA. The decision was made to wait to move into harmony with the suggested guidelines so the UNY Conference could enjoy the results of the logo contest for a time.

However, now that some time has passed and a new year approaches, the decision has been made to move toward the guidelines created by UMCom and the GCFA. This transition will not be instantaneous. The Conference has begun phasing out the old logo, and over time, it will be entirely replaced by the new Conference logo. The benefit of this change will be increased brand recognition for both the UNY Conference and The United Methodist Church.
