Conference Advance Specials celebrated and supported
October 9, 2022 / By Tara Barnes, Director of Denominational Relations, United Women in Faith
The Rev. Bill Gottschalk-Fielding, UNY Director of Connectional Ministries, presented the 2023 Conference Advance Specials, as listed on p. 20 of the 2022 UNY Annual Conference Journal Vol.1, with the addition of the Southern Sudan Health Project and Buffalo 10 Scholarships.
Twenty-nine ministries were included on the amended list.
The Rev. Jeff Childs, chair of the Conference Global Ministries Team, explained the purpose of the specials.
“Years ago, it seems churches were inundated with a lot of requests for funding, and annual conferences were thus given the power by the Book of Discipline to limit the number of requests that could be made to local churches through a conference
Advance Specials list. This year we'll also be looking at also developing district lists,” he said. “There's a lot of exciting information that will be coming out this year, and I want to just thank the annual conference for that opportunity.”
The Rev. Childs then encouraged support of the projects and to contact him if Conference members want to lift up other projects.
The body approved the list of Advance Specials.
“I hope that you will also support them through giving to them and inviting others in your local congregations to give,” said Upper New York Resident Bishop Mark Webb. “These are ways in which we together have a greater impact in our communities, our state, this nation and across the world. Thank you in advance for financially contributing to these ministries and these opportunities to further the gospel of Jesus Christ.”
