    Perspectives: Day in the Life

Day in the Life: Shelby Winchell

April 16, 2018 / By Shelby Winchell, Social Media and Web Specialist

What’s going on around the Conference and what is everyone talking about on social media? My name is Shelby Winchell and that’s a question I ask myself every single day. I maintain the Upper New York Conference website and social media accounts. Just about everything you see on Facebook, Instagram, and the Conference’s Twitter account is something I posted. I try to engage our social media followers through pictures, videos, and meaningful posts on events happening in and around the UNY Conference.

Requests come in all day every day. Our website is complex and features a lot of good information. I help keep the information current and relevant by removing old forms or outdated material and replacing it with current information. It’s not just updating pages either. I also help create new web pages within the website itself. Today, I updated the Annual Conference web page and created three additional pages that you can visit on the website--- a registration page, a registration guidelines page, and a what you need to know page for when you’re at Annual Conference. Each page features images, additional links, some have PDF forms that can be filled out online. I help create these too! My goal is to make the website as user friendly as possible and that require daily maintenance.

If today is Wednesday, I’m working on laying out the Weekly Digest, the Conference’s weekly e-blast newsletter. It typically features ten to twelve different stories that are summarized in blurbs. It’s really a team effort in the Communications Department, but is a way to help communicate what we’re working on and what’s happened Conference-wide the past week. You too can subscribe to get a copy of the Weekly Digest delivered to your email each Wednesday afternoon by clicking here.

In the meantime, I’m keeping an eye on the Conference’s Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages and constantly adding new content. With more than 2700 followers on Facebook alone, it’s important that our followers know what’s going on in Upper New York whether it be at the Upper New York Conference Center or something spectacular at one of the 900 United Methodist Churches or New Faith Communities in 48,000 square miles that our Conference covers. It gives me great pride sharing the stories of others. If you don’t already, follow the Upper New York Conference on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Like, share, comment, or re-tweet on of our posts. I hope to interact with you there.

Commenting is not available in this channel entry.
