    Retirees honored at Annual Conference

    June 19, 2021 / By Tara Barnes

The Upper New York Conference celebrated its retiring clergy on Saturday morning of the 2021 annual conference. Eighty clergypeople were honored during the virtual ceremony.

“Though we are unable to greet these individuals in person, give them a hug, shake their hands, say thank-you, we can still celebrate who they are and all that they have contributed to each of us individually and to all of us corporately,” said Upper New York Area Resident Bishop, Mark J. Webb, as he introduced the video offering the name, photo, and years of service of each retiring clergyperson.

Thirty-six individuals retired in 2020 and 44 in 2021. Both classes were honored together at 2021 ceremony.

The retirees named during Saturday’s service represent a combined 1,095 years of service.

“For those of you retiring, for those of you have been retired since last year, thank you,” Bishop Webb told retirees. “We give thanks to God for your ministry among us.”

The retiring clergy were approved for retirement during Friday’s clergy session.
