Skye Farm Camp & Retreat Center was recognized as a "community partner" by the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Warren County (CCE) for Skye Farm's "support of the (Warren County) Campership Program."

The award was presented at CCE's Annual Meeting & Volunteer Recognition Dinner on Oct. 22, 2014.

Camp scholarships, many funded through Skye Farm and the Upper New York Conference, made it possible for a large number of the youth who applied to the Warren County Campership Program to attend camp this year. The Warren County program received 179 applications in 2014; 100 were funded and 99 youth attended camp.

"We were able to send the highest number of youth in almost a decade," according to the awards dinner program.

"There has been a relationship with CCE for a very long time," said Skye Farm Director Jim Daly. "Over the past several years, we have hosted up to 77 or more campers a year. Those funds have come from a variety of sources that include: county funding, local business support, and, importantly, many private contributions from individuals associated with Skye Farm. This year, we were able to fund an additional 20 campers."

Skye Farm also helps ensure these children have what they need once they get to camp, Daly said. These campers are often nominated by teachers or other professionals that they encounter, he said, and some only learn they will be coming to camp a day or two before they arrive.

"Many arrive here poorly equipped to live in a rustic setting, so other Skye Farm friends have contributed clothing or sleeping equipment to help them have a successful week," Daly said. "Once here, they are treated just like every other Skye Farm camper. They become one of the family, so to speak."

"We are richly blessed by collaborations that serve to make this transformational experience available to those that would not otherwise be able to attend camp,” said Director of Camp and Retreat Ministries Mike Huber. "I am grateful for the Warren County Cooperative Extension partnership."
