From the Desk of Bishop Héctor: Honoring Pastoral Leaders

October 14, 2025 / By UNY Communications / .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

“I thank God every time I remember you… because of your partnership in the gospel…”

    Philippians 1:3–6

    Dear partners in ministry,

Grace and peace to you in the name of Jesus Christ.

As we celebrate Clergy Appreciation Month, I give thanks for the courageous, compassionate, and faithful leadership of our pastoral leaders across the Susquehanna and Upper New York Area. In a time of many challenges and uncertainty, you guide our congregations and communities with wisdom rooted in your faith in Christ and hearts attuned to the Holy Spirit.

In the Wesleyan tradition, grace is not only prevenient, but also persistent. It meets us in the mess, sustains us in the unknown, and calls us forward into hope. You are vessels of that grace. Not perfect—but faithful. And that is the deeper call.

To our laity: thank you for walking alongside your pastoral leaders. Your prayers, encouragement, and shared ministry make this work possible. The church is never a solo act; it is Spirit-woven collaboration, grounded in love.

Clergy wellness remains a top priority for me. When pastoral leaders are holistically healthy, congregations flourish. I invite all SPRCs and leadership teams to watch a short video I’ve prepared on Clergy Wellness. May it spark conversation about faithful rhythms of Work, Rest, and Play.

You can watch the video here.

Let us continue to honor and support one another, not just this month, but always, as we form disciples of Jesus Christ who empowered by the Holy Spirit: love boldly, serve joyfully, and lead courageously, transforming lives and communities through Christ’s healing love.

    Together in mission,

    Bishop Héctor A. Burgos-Núñez
