Faithful Resistance 2026
February 11, 2026 / By Rev. Dr. Aaron Bouwens, Director of Missional Excellence / .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
United Methodists of Upper New York are at our best when we are participating in transforming the world as we nurture passionate disciples of Jesus Christ who share faith, mercy, and justice in their everyday lives. Passionate disciples are people who both seek and work for justice. On February 25, 2026, there is an opportunity to join with siblings from across the United Methodist connection to advocate for justice through faithful resistance.
From across the country, people of faith are making plans to join together in Washington, D.C. in an act of faithful resistance focused on the current immigration practices of the federal government. Through the work of The United Methodist Church general agencies, and other ecumenical and interfaith partners, a full day of faithful resistance will be held. In conjunction with the national gathering, the Upper New York Social Holiness Team and Immigration Taskforce are organizing local opportunities for churches and individuals to participate in this shared witness for immigration justice. These events will offer meaningful ways to pray, learn, and take faithful action within our own communities. Churches interested in joining the effort are invited to attend an informational Zoom meeting on Friday, February 13, at 9 a.m. with resources provided to support congregational action and solidarity.
