July 1 marks the beginning of Upper New York’s (UNY) new Regional Superintendency Plan. While UNY Conference will maintain the current 12 Districts, every District will be a part of one of three Regions. This will allow leadership and collaboration opportunities between Districts within each Region.

    • Region 1 consists of the Albany, Adirondack, Northern Flow, and Mohawk Districts.
    • Region 2 consists of the Crossroads, Finger Lakes, Genesee Valley, and Niagara Frontier Districts.
    • Region 3 consists of the Oneonta, Binghamton, Mountainview, and Cornerstone Districts.

With the new Regions, there will be some changes with District Superintendents (DSes).

Earlier this year, the Rev. Everett Bassett, the DS of the Oneonta District, retired.

Effective July 1, the Rev. David Kofahl, DS of the Binghamton District, will retire.

Also, effective July 1, the Rev. Rich Weihing will have ended his DS term in the Albany District; he will be appointed to a local church.

This results in nine DSes for the UNY Conference. Every District will have a primary DS appointed to it with a team of three DSes working together in each Region.

Region 1 DSes are the Rev. Debbie Earthrowl, the Rev. Abel Roy, and the Rev. Mike Weeden. Rev. Earthrowl will be appointed as the DS of the Adirondack District and the Albany District; Rev. Roy will be appointed as the DS of the Mohawk District; and Rev. Weeden will be appointed as the DS of the Northern Flow District. Rev. Earthrowl and Rev. Roy have each been assigned to oversee churches in the Albany District. Rev. Roy has also been assigned to oversee Mountain Community and Wells UMCs in the Adirondack District.

Region 2 DSes are the Rev. Nola Anderson, the Rev. Vonda Fossitt, and the Rev. Carlos Rosa Laguer. Rev. Anderson will be appointed as the DS for the Crossroads District and the Finger Lakes District; Rev. Fossitt will be appointed as the DS for the Genesee Valley District; and Rev. Rosa Laguer will be appointed as the DS for the Niagara Frontier District. Rev. Anderson, Rev. Fossitt, and Rev. Rosa Laguer have all been assigned to oversee churches in the Finger Lakes District.

Region 3 DSes are the Rev. Nancy Adams, the Rev. Dr. Jeffrey McDowell, and the Rev. Suzanne Block. Rev. Adams will be moving Districts and will be appointed as the DS for both the Binghamton District and the Oneonta District. Rev. McDowell will beappointed as the DS of the Mountain View District. . Rev. Block will be appointed as the DS  of the Cornerstone District except for Christ: Olean, which Rev. McDowell has been assigned to oversee. Rev. Block has also been assigned to oversee some of the churches in the Mountain View District.
