Donors reminisce about their times at UNY Camp & Retreat Centers

The Manna in the Wilderness campaign to support Upper New York Camp & Retreat Ministries is going strong. Individuals who have had moving experiences at one of Upper New York’s Camp & Retreat Centers are stepping forward to make donations to a ministry that means so much to them.

The Rev. Thanna Howell, pastor at Plymouth UMC, designated her donation to go to Sky Lake Camp & Retreat Center. She said, “Sky Lake has been a vital part of my spiritual journey. From the time as a kid attending camp (sometimes two or three weeks over the summer) to various events, like the Walk to Emmaus and Lay Servant courses, as an adult, Sky Lake has been and is a big part of my becoming a pastor.

The beautiful scenery and nature bring us close to God and away from the busyness of our hectic lives and schedules. God is surely in that place! God can and does set a table in the wilderness to provide what is needed.”

Ellen Whited designated her donation to Skye Farm Camp & Retreat Center said, “I have many fond memories of our United Methodist Youth and mid-January retreats at Skye Farm. It was a very rewarding time for us all spiritually and personally. The most memorable times for the teens were the midnight prayer walks ending in singing around the fire…these memories are with them today!”

The Rev, Paul Robinson and his wife Ellie donated to Casowasco. Rev. Robinson, whose parents were very active in getting Casowasco off the ground, said, “Ellie and I would very much like to donate to Casowasco to help you through what must be an incredibly trying time. No one alive has ever experienced anything like this; similar may (depression and World Wars I and II), but like this? No way!”

Like the Rev, Thanna Howell, the Rev. Ed Whitted and his wife Ellen, and the Rev. Paul Robinson and his wife Ellie, you too have an opportunity to provide manna for your beloved Upper New York Camp and Retreat Ministry. We hope you will prayerfully consider giving generously to the CRM Annual Fund as part of this Manna in the Wilderness Campaign. All gifts will be put to immediate use helping offset expenses in the central office and assisting in sustaining the ministry during this wilderness time.
