Editor's Note: The following Christmas message was sent to United Methodists of Upper New York on Monday, December 23, 2024 on behalf of Bishop Héctor A. Burgos Núñez.
“Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people" Luke 2:10
Dear siblings in Christ,
The birth of Jesus is the ultimate reason for joy, one that echoes across the centuries. When the angel proclaimed, “…I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people,” the heavens announced a light breaking into the darkness - a love that transforms and sustains us, even in the most challenging times.
In a world that often feels weighed down by conflict, violence, and uncertainty, the light of Christ's birth offers us a beacon of hope. Christ’s presence shines into the harshness of life, bringing peace and joy that cannot be extinguished. This Christmas, let us find comfort in Jesus’ abiding love and rejoice in the gift of His light, allowing it to fill us and guide us forward.
As we celebrate Jesus’ birth in the coming days, let us carry that light into the world around us. Let us be messengers of the same joy the angels proclaimed, sharing love and compassion, and working for justice in a world that longs for hope and peace.
May the presence of Christ fill us with a deep and steadfast joy that transforms not only this season, but every day to come.
Together in the journey,
Bishop Héctor A. Burgos Núñez
