Change in insurance carrier beginning Jan. 1, 2020

November 12, 2019 / By Jack Keating and Richard Barling

Editor's Note: In early Nov. 2019, the UNY Board of Trustees sent the following letter to all churches in the UNY Conference to inform them of the plan to change the Conference's insurance carrier from Church Mutual to Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company.

To: All Churches in the Upper New York Annual Conference,

Each year, your Annual Conference Board of Trustees reviews our Conference-wide insurance program. The Board looks at many factors, including claims paying ability, loss prevention, risk management and premium pricing. In early 2019, the Board was contacted by additional potential insurers. As a result of many months of negotiations, The Board of Trustees determined to change our insurance carrier, effective Jan. 1, 2020. On that date our Conference-wide insurance will be provided by Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company and their representatives, the American Church Group of New York.

Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company provides insurance exclusively for churches and ministry programs, has an excellent financial and claims paying record, and has worked to develop a program that will insure the continuity of our Conference-wide program.

We recognize that changes of this type can be challenging, but the team at American Church Group of New York has promised to help us negotiate this period of change to make our transition as seamless as possible. Our Conference staff will also be deeply involved in this process.

Each church should expect to hear from American Church Group of New York staff within the next few weeks. All insurance coverages will switch to Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company effective Jan. 1. Billing will continue to be done directly by the company and helpful payment options will continue to be available for every church.

More details will be forthcoming, and all churches will be receiving 2020 invoices from Brotherhood Mutual prior to Jan. 1. Please let us know if you have any questions regarding this change of insurance carriers or your church’s billing.

    Thank you very much.

    Sincerely,

    Jack Keating, Trustees, Insurance Committee

    and

    Richard Barling, Trustees President
