Cave Quest Vacation Bible School kids show their generous spirit

July 26, 2016 / By Shannon Hodson / .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

Vacation Bible School season is in full-swing. Several churches in Upper New York host VBS. Visit our Facebook album to see photos of VBSs all throughout The UNY Conference. We will continually update this album as photos come in.

Here is one account of the United Methodist Church of Webster’s VBS:

During the week of July 18 through July 22nd, the United Methodist Church of Webster had an awesome experience of God-filled days with the presence of 54 VBS kids, 24 youth helpers, and 23 adults! In previous years, our VBS kids have completed five different mission projects one for each day). However this year – they heard of the great need of the Imagine No Malaria campaign and decided that would be their only mission effort.

The students and staff of “Cave Quest 2016” used Imagine No Malaria as part of their theme of “Spreading Jesus’ Light into the World.” The kids took part in a mini lesson about malaria, its transmission, and some of the methods used to treat and prevent the spread of the disease. Many of them enjoyed pretending to “sleep” under a mosquito net. With all the giggles, not too much ‘sleeping was done!)

Over the course of the week, the students lined up each day to drop their donations into a big jar. We had kids excitedly explaining that they were giving money from their allowances and from their own piggy banks. In fact, one child even donated all of her birthday money (she had planned on using it to buy an X-box system). This student explained to her VBS teacher, “It is more important that children in Africa have mosquito netting, than for me to have more toys.”

We give great thanks for the generosity of our Cave Quest Kids, their parents, our teen and adult staff.

In all, we raised a total of $950.00 for the Imagine No Malaria campaign! God’s on the move and we are doing our best to keep up! We can hardly wait to send the check on its way to the conference office!
