Casowasco Camp & Retreat Center receives ACA accreditation

Casowasco Camp & Retreat Center in Moravia underwent a reaccreditation process this past summer to maintain its excellent standing with the American Camp Association (ACA) and has received ACA accreditation. Compliance with 30 mandatory standards is required for accreditation to be granted, regardless of scores achieved in other areas. Standards in the areas of site and food service, transportation, health and wellness, operational management, human resources, program design and activities, program aquatics, and program trip and travel are evaluated as well.

“Congratulations on having an ACA-Accredited camp! You can be very proud of your accomplishment … ” wrote John Quinlivan, Local Council of Leaders Chair for the ACA, Upstate New York, in a letter. “On behalf of the ACA, Upstate New York, I would like to thank you for your dedication and cooperation … ”

The main purpose of the ACA-accreditation program is to educate camp owners and directors in the administration of key aspects of camp operation, particularly those related to program quality and the health and safety of campers and staff. The standards establish guidelines for needed policies, procedures, and practices. The camp is then responsible for ongoing implementation of these policies.

The second purpose of the ACA accreditation is to assist the public in selecting camps that meet industry-accepted and government-recognized standards. The ACA’s camp database provides the public with 11 ways to search for the ideal ACA-accredited camp.

“Camps accredited by the ACA communicate their commitment to a quality camp experience – one of professionalism, qualified staff, and superior programming,” said Mike Huber, Director of Camp and Retreat Ministries. “We are proud that Casowasco continues to be committed to the accreditation process!”
