CST Brands Inc. presented representatives from the Aldersgate Camp & Retreat Center with a $10,000 gift that will be used to assist in renovations at the site.

CST Brands Inc., headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, is owner of Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes. CST Brands held 10 Corner Store Country Runs across the United States during 2015, boasting 37,000 participants and generating $1.4 million that were donated to children’s charities.

“We are honored to receive this generous gift from CST Brands Inc. and excited to use it to further ministry on these Holy Grounds,” said Mike Huber, the Upper New York Conference Director of Camp & Retreat Ministries.

“This gift is a blessing and the renovations to our C Area will be wonderful,” said Shari Mudge, the Seasonal Site Manager at Aldersgate Camp & Retreat Center.

Last year marked the inaugural Country Run in Syracuse, a 5K fun run at Onondaga Community College (OCC) with more than 1,400 runners. Runners dress in “country attire” and enjoy a free, family-friendly country fair with live music, food, sponsor booths, carnival games, and giveaways following the run.

In total, CST Brands’ Supervisor of Communications Ann Ammann presented five locally-nominated charities each with a check for $10,000, the Aldersgate Camp & Retreat Center among them.

“We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to share the proceeds with such outstanding organizations that help our customers in the communities we serve at Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes,” said Ammann.

Other local charities receiving proceeds from the Country Runs were Paige’s Butterfly Run Inc., which supports pediatric cancer research; Rotary Foundation/CNY Children’s Foundation Inc., which offers a safe and fun space for children in the greater Syracuse area; Tillie’s Touch, which promotes sports to underprivileged children around Syracuse; and Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital, which provides comprehensive, seamless, and innovative patient- and family-centered health care to improve the health status of the region.

This year’s Country Run will be held on Aug. 6 at OCC.
