    2023 Charge Conference FAQs

Below are a list of some frequently asked questions (FAQs) regarding the 2023 Upper New York (UNY) Charge Conference forms.

What is the clergy ID number?

The clergy ID is just a random number that our Conference database assigns to clergy when they are entered into the UNY database. It has no meaning or association with anything else. It is a random number that helps us identify in each system so the information we are getting is only connected to that clergy person.

Why are some forms due earlier on September 20?

These are the core documents the Charge Conference acts on in organizing the ministry of the local church. In past years, there were many instances when these were not completed in time for the scheduled Charge Conferences. Setting a due date for these forms helps churches prioritize the work they need to complete in preparation for their Charge Conference meeting

Do Deacons need to fill out the clergy profile?

In the past, only Deacons serving as pastors in the local church have filed clergy profiles, while others have submitted their annual reports to the Bishop, District Superintendent, and General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) at the start of the new calendar year. However, this year, our new Bishop would like all Deacons under appointment (in the local church or outside the church to any appointment) to fill out all applicable sections. Bishop Héctor A. Burgos Núñez realizes that not all these questions will apply so only complete what is applicable. The Bishop will work towards offering a fully customized profile for the deacons next year.

Do disaffiliating churches need to complete Charge Conference paperwork?

Yes, churches going through the disaffiliation process remain United Methodist until the court approves the transfer of the property deed. Yes, the church needs to hold a Charge Conference and continue to do all its normal reporting within expected deadlines. The DS will be prioritizing documents with legal implications when presiding at the Charge Conference.
