Upper New York Annual Conference Scholarships and Grants
In 2020, the Social Holiness Team supported the following emerging justice ministries:
- In May, the Niagara Frontier City Ministries was awarded a grant to help support their work to provide masks, cleaning supplies, and hygiene products to the underserved in their area around Buffalo and Niagara Falls. This area and especially the homeless population was particularly hard hit in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.
- In November, the New York State Poor People’s Campaign was awarded a grant to assist in the development of a podcast entitled, Getting into Step. The goal of the podcast is to connect activists and spiritual leaders and provide training and support for those doing the work of the of this national movement.
Applications for the Lottie Brown Grant are now available through March 15, 2021. Due to the coronavirus pandemic and limited staff working at the Conference office each day, it is highly recommended that all completed materials be sent electronically to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Preference is given to those entering some form of Christian service. A statement of your faith journey and philosophy of life is given high consideration. All application materials for this scholarship must be postmarked by March 15, 2021. Late or incomplete applications may not be considered. Applications for the Ercil Cady Grant are available now through March 15, 2021. Grant(s) of up to $5,000 may be awarded to individual United Methodists, local UM churches, or Upper New York District and Conference ministry teams. As directed by the originator of the Ercil Cady Grant, grants will be given for the 'benefit or education of disadvantaged minority individuals, preferably blacks or American Indians."
