    about

    Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the The Upper New York Conference, which provides administrative resources and support to approximately 900 United Methodist Churches in the upper New York area. We employ approximately 100 year-round employees at our Conference Office in Central New York, six camp and retreat centers, and 12 district offices across New York State, as well as 150 seasonal staff at our camp and retreat centers. In addition to paid staff, there are volunteer opportunities throughout the year that help us live our vision is to “live the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to be God’s love with our neighbors in all places."

The volunteer opportunities listed below would be assisting one of our Conference ministry areas. To submit a Conference-level volunteer opportunity, email news@unyumc.org. Click here to view paid employment opportunities. For local church postings, view our classifieds.

Volunteer Opportunity at Conference Camp & Retreat Sites

Camp & Retreat Ministries (CRM) welcomes volunteers to support the conference camp and retreat centers through the maintenance and upkeep of the buildings and grounds. The conference volunteer management team is looking for individuals and teams local to Aldersgate, Asbury, Casowasco, Skye Farm, or Sky Lake. Each camp is ready with a list of projects suitable for volunteers. Local volunteers are encouraged as the camps curtailed overnight accommodations for the summer. State and conference safety protocols are in place to help keep volunteers and staff safe.

The goal for volunteers: partner with camp staff to assist with tasks suited to your skills. Food and beverage for all the workers is provided by the camp. If you are ready to volunteer at Aldersgate, Asbury, Casowasco, Skye Farm, or Sky Lake, please use the following form to register: https://bit.ly/20campwork

Thoughts, questions, or concerns should be directed to Kristina Clark, UNY Director of Missional Engagement, at kristinaclark@unyumc.org or (315) 898-2066.

    Archive and History Volunteer

The Upper New York Conference Commission on Archives and History is offering unpaid archival work experiences to laypeople in the Crossroads District.  Duties will include assisting with un-boxing church records and donations, identifying collection contents, rehousing collections in appropriate archival containers, and ensuring the well-organized storage of collections for ease of access and retrieval for public research. The Conference’s collections include many kinds of records and realia. Previous archival experience and detailed knowledge of the United Methodist Church are not necessary, but an interest in history and attention to detail is expected. Dress “comfortably.”

Where: Conference Center on Henry Clay Blvd. in Liverpool, NY

Inquiries should be directed to Rev. Bill Gottschalk-Fielding (315) 898-2020 or billg-f@unyumc.org.

    Camp & Retreat Volunteer

Volunteers play an integral role in the overall camp and retreat experience. The opportunities we provide help committed people use the gifts and experiences they’ve gained through a personal relationship with God to impact the lives of a small group of campers or participants. You become the bridge between what’s being experienced – the programming to who experiences it – the campers and guests. You become the face and the name that brings to life our goal - “Transforming Lives."

Volunteers are chosen for their maturity, personal integrity, skills, patience, and desire to be Christian role models for youth, and share in the spirit of fun and excitement at camp. You may choose to come as a counselor, work in a number of different program areas, or support the maintenance, office, or kitchen.

We love having local leaders who have worked in youth and children’s ministry on staff for a week or more. Dedicate a week or more of your life to the ministry at Aldersgate, Asbury Retreat Center, Casowasco, Sky Lake, or Skye Farm. Come and help change the life of a child or participant.

We'd love to start the conversation about volunteering your time here at one of our centers. Click the links below for direct application to the sites or give us a call at (315) 898-2026 or email us at info@campsandretreats.org.
