Upper New York Area Resident Bishop Mark J. Webb has announced that the Rev. Ted Anderson and the Rev. Jan Rowell will be appointed to the office of District Superintendent for an eighth year. Both Rev. Anderson and Rev. Rowell also had their terms extended in 2014.
They will continue to provide leadership to their current districts: Rev. Anderson to the Genesee Valley District and Rev. Rowell to the Oneonta District.
“Both Ted and Jan have shown great leadership in a challenging time of transition in Upper New York,” said Bishop Webb. “Having them continue to lead in the coming year will be a great gift to us all.”
The normal term for a district superintendent is six years, but may be extended up to eight years at the bishop's discretion, in consultation with the Cabinet and the District Committee on Superintendency.
Rev. Anderson said he is delighted to continue his service in this role.
“Zip-a-dee-doo-dah,” he said. “I enjoy what I do, so it’s a delight to be asked to continue to do it. I hope what I’ve been doing is somehow bringing hope and the good news of Jesus to the churches in my district. I hope that I’ve been helping the pastors and the churches to be all that they can be.”
Rev. Rowell also plans to continue the work she has been doing in her district.
“I’ve been able to get to know more people and more of the circumstances of churches, (and) that will help me to support them in looking forward in their ministry,” she said. “I’m very happy to have further time to work with some of the people in the district … It’s a further opportunity to support their ministries and see where we can align ourselves with what God is doing in our areas and in our regions.”
