UMCOR Kit Assembly options outside the HUB
An option for assembling UMCOR kits while maintaining social distasting helps keep the inventories in a useful status. The suggested operation can be run in any church and following the safe operation protocols is important. Setting up the assembling area to keep suggested distance is very workable. (The picture shows a group doing this prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.)
Ordering the material to be received at your home or church is not difficult. Many stores and Amazon offer delivery options. Be sure you review how the material is packaged – you may have to order a few more of an item to fill a given number of kits. Look in your local communities to see what organizations may need/use the extra items.
Chose an area you can set up a store-like configuration. Set products on the tables in the order of packing the kits. An example for the setup is packing the UMCOR Cleaning Kit. Following the packing list provided, start by packing the large items first. Followed up by stuffing the smaller items in and around those large items. Here is a hint – pack the large garbage bags into two rolls and place those in with the larger items. The best garbage bags are the thick contractor bags; however, the cost could be extreme. Think about making one roll the contractor bags and the second roll the household use bags.
Now your volunteers can pick up a bucket (an example) and walk the line of products. This is a great way to ensure the entire list of material is chosen and packed properly. It might be a good idea to have another person to check each bucket at the end before putting the tops on to ensure each one is packaged correctly.
The next step is to deliver the items to the Conference office, which is home to UNY Mission Central HUB. You do not need to print labels. If you have any donations to help pay for shipping, please include a check and write “HUB” in the memo column on the check.
