September 10, 2019 / By UNY Communications
Some Districts in the Upper New York Conference are preparing for upcoming fall leadership trainings. Here are some details we have obtained:
The Genesee Valley District will hold their fall leadership training on Sept. 14 at Rush UMC from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. There will be several choices of morning workshops as well as afternoon workshops. Click here for more information. Click here to register.
Sept. 15 is an eventful day of trainings for the Mohawk District. The event is a District Clergy Day for all those appointed or assigned to a local church in the Pastor or Deacon role. This day takes place 3 p.m., Sept. 15, at First UMC, 105 Genesee St., New Hartford, NY 13413. All clergy/lay pastors are expected to attend. If you have an emergency that will prevent you from being with us, please contact the District Superintendent and ask to be excused. Dinner will be served. Then, at 6:30 p.m., Sept. 15, all paid church staff, including pastors, are invited to attend a New York State-mandated Sexual Harassment Prevention Training, also at First UMC in New Hartford. If you or your staff elect not to participate in the Sexual Harassment Prevention Training, then your church will need to obtain the resource materials and conduct the training for your church’s employees. This is not optional. New York State is requiring all employers, including churches, to develop a sexual harassment policy and train employees by Oct. 9, 2019. Will you please make sure your church is caring for this requirement in a timely manner? Click here for more information on the required sexual harassment training.
The Adirondack District Day will be Saturday Oct. 19 at Plattsburgh UMC from 8:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Click Entitled, “Informed to Transform,” eighteen are workshops planned, facilitated by laity, clergy, community leaders, and Conference staff. Some of the topics include: developing a discipleship system, walking the prayer labyrinth, hospitality, mental health/addiction, congregational care, small groups and using drama in Bible study. The day will begin at 8:30 a.m. with registration, with an opening worship at 9 a.m. There will be three 75-minute sessions and a luncheon, with communion offered during closing time at 2:30 p.m. The $10 fee includes lunch.
