Ongoing Mission Opportunities
The following is a list of ongoing mission projects not being held in the Upper New York Mission Central HUB. If you're looking to help, please contact the project's organizers in advance to make sure there's still a need for volunteers and that the event is not cancelled. Rehabilitation Trip to North Carolina
October 13-19, 2019
Join Operation Northern Comfort on a working relief and rehabilitation trip to the Outer Banks in North Carolina. Work includes a lot of fixup work, including sheetrocking, painting, etc. The cost of the trip is $200 and includes round-trip transportation, meals, and lodging. Works' Beautification Through Interfaith Dialogue project
October 14, 2019
The Works' Beautification Through Interfaith Dialogue project will help build and assemble 10 wooden flower boxes, as well as deliver them and fill them to four different faith group locations. They do their work at the Northside Learning Center, 501 Park Street in Syracuse.
As of now, they estimate 26 youth and 12 adults for the day. Youth are invited to start the day at 9:30 a.m. and work through no later than 4:00 p.m. (hopefully we can end by 3 p.m.).
There's the need for the following:
- 3 adults
- 4-5 cordless drills/drivers (will need Philips head bits and 3/8" drill bits)
- 2 staple guns with 3/8" staples
- 4 tarps
- 4-5 trash cans or barrels for holding soil, and perhaps large totes for transporting soil
- 2 heavy duty scissors for cutting landscape fabric
- 1 hammer
- 3 handheld sanders
- 3 digging shovels (pointed or square tip)

Syracuse Parks Conservancy
Help work on restoring and upkeeping Syracuse city parks for kids and all to enjoy. Past projects have included restoration, enhancement, and improvements to area parks and public lands. Volunteer with the Syracuse Parks Conservancy. Projects are ongoing and anyone interested should complete and submit a volunteer application either electronically or by mail by clicking here.
Red Bird Mission
April 11 - 19, 2020
Watertown First UMC is sponsoring a mission team to Red Bird Mission in KY. The team will be led by Kathy Pierce & Lance Stetson, both certified and experienced team leaders. They'll be traveling during spring break week in the North Country. The cost will be $600/person, all inclusive.
