    HUB on the Road

Upper New York Conference of the United Methodist Church Mission Central HUB is a facility and Mission on ways to live “Being of the Hands and Feet of God.” Concepts, ideas, and programs are centered at the HUB to be received and shared to all willing and open to receive.

“HUB on the Road” is a concept to share in the ability of activity opportunity once thought to be done only in the Conference facility. The steps needed to support the creation of the UMCOR Kits can be done not only in the HUB, but also, out in our churches or locations where people can gather together to provide the same results.

Most churches are looking for ways to bring their entire congregation to the HUB, but that isn’t always feasible. These same churches are capable and in some cases are doing the Kit Assembling, so a suggestion of “HUB on the Road” to enhance the event can not only increase the results, but also, bring other agencies and churches to the table. When a storm comes into town, it does not ask what religion you are, it decimates you all. Why wait until then to learn how to work together? Pick a day to assemble a kit and invite the Catholic church to bring an item, other Protestant churches, and local organizations to bring items and offer to do what Methodists do well and fed them while they assemble kits.

The local church can reach out to other organizations who are willing to be a part of the process. Other churches, Knights of Columbus, Rotary Club, and Scouts are some of the groups that provide local communities with different services during a disaster. Many towns/villages have organized groups to prepare for such disasters but do not include non-profits. HUB on the Road can engage this action using the Kit Assembly process as a start and practice opportunity. By bringing everyone together and sharing the UMCOR missions and our involvement can open the doors to the other organizations to work with us.
