Volunteers-in-Mission will begin removal & rebuilding a boathouse at Camp Asbury from the foundation up. The current structure is unusable. This is the first of planned fall/spring camp work weekends around the new conference for the UMVIM community. We hope to work at each camp in rotation eventually working at all six. It will be a time to get to know those from the original four conferences as we work for our camping ministries.

Disaster Response

ERT training is for the second "Relief" phase of disaster response which follows the Emergency or "life saving" phase. ERT refers to Early Response, the few days or possibly weeks immediately following a disaster when houses are still wet, muddy, and open to the weather. The goals of Early Response are to convert minimally damaged houses into safe, sanitary and secure shelter that people can return to, so rebuilding can begin. ER Teams typically go on short notice for just a few days. The work generally involves tarping roofs, and removing mud, wet belongings and saturated drywall to prevent mold growth. Training includes these issues as well as counseling survivors who might have a hard time parting with ruined possessions. Chainsaw safety for non-operators is also covered because you might be working where chainsaws are being used.
