District Superintendent

The Rev. Jan McClary Rowell  began serving the Embury District of Troy Conference in July of 2008. She is a graduate of SUNY Empire State College (1975) and Andover Newton Theological School (1978). She has served congregations in Rock City Falls/Middle Grove/East Galway, West Sand Lake, Schenectady (First), and Scotia, New York.

Her   work has also included the Troy Conference Board of Ordained Ministry (Chair), General and Jurisdictional Conference delegate, and the National Town and Country Network.  She  is very interested in encouraging the Church’s ministry of Caring for Creation, and is a Board member of New York Interfaith Power and Light.

Her husband Dave Rowell is an active Roman Catholic. Ecumenical dialogue for them has meant sharing one another’s worship traditions and faith communities. They have travelled to Ecuador with Heifer International, and to the rainforest of Panama, part of a sister parish relationship with Dave’s parish.
Jan enjoys weaving. She and Dave have two young adult children, Elizabeth and Peter.

The eyes of the future are looking back at us
and they are praying for us to see beyond our own time,
They are kneeling with clasped hands
that we might act with restraint,
leaving room for the life that is destined to come.
