Members of Troy Conference had made their first trip to Mozambique in 1990 at the initiative of Bishop Dale White, then resident bishop, and of Bonnie Totten Adkins of Africa Church Growth and Development.
Since the ongoing, life-giving relationship between the people of Troy Conference and the people of the Mozambique Conferences has deepened. Not only do Volunteer-in-Missions teams from Troy travel to Mozambique, but VIM teams from Mozambique come to Troy Conference to help with both physical and spiritual rebuilding. Part of the work of the teams is to work on understanding the effects of economic imbalance, white privilege and the injustice or racism that influence the relationship. The team's hope is that "the current imbalance of power that exists in this relationship will move toward balance."
The relationship continues to deepen through support of Mozambican presence at the bi-annual meetings with Bishop João Somane Machado and representatives of the U.S. conferences in relationship with the United Methodist Church in Mozambique, The Mozambique Working Group.
The Troy-Mozambique Ministries Team takes an annual asking to support this vital exchange. The money raised is used for:
