Capital punishment

In the Social Priniciples (¶164A), it states clearly that the United Methodist Church opposes "capital punishment and urges its elimination from all criminal codes." While Vermont does not use death as a punishment, New York does have death penalty laws and advocates continue to rally at the capital in opposition.

Drunk Driving: Ignition Interlock Legislative Initiative

The proposed legislation requires the installation of ignition interlock devices by 2007 for motor vehicles made for use in New York and for second hand motor vehicles sold in the State; and mandates that all motor vehicles have the devices by 2009. The bill was held for consideration by the committee of transportation.
