Eco-Justice

"All creation is the Lord's, and we are responsible for the ways in which we use and abuse it. Water, air, soil, minerals, energy resources, plants, animal life, and space are to be valued and conserved because they are God's creation and not solely because they are useful to human beings. God has granted us stewardship of creation. We should meet these stewardship duties through acts of loving care and respect." United Methodist Social Principles, ¶160, The 2004 United Methodist Book of Discipline

The mission of the New York Interfaith Power & Light is to promote faithful and just stewardship of God's creation through energy conservation, energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy.

Most congregations in New York State are eligible for a low cost energy audit from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). It's a low-cost energy audit, but in effect it's a "no-cost" energy audit since the cost of the audit is applied toward any of the recommended energy work you elect to do.

Vermont Interfaith Power & Light (VTIPL) promotes energy efficiency in Vermont's faith community and offers any congregation a free workshop on energy conservation, renewable energy, and efficient transportation. The workshop highlights concrete steps that can be taken to reduce energy consumption and make a real difference in cutting greenhouse gas emissions. VTIPL also offers a free "walk-through" of the house of worship and/or other buildings of the faith community to audit the energy use and offer suggestions for saving energy. To learn more, call the VEC & VTIPL office by phone at (802) 434-7307 or e-mail
