UMM to hold annual gathering at Casowasco

United Methodist Men from across the Upper New York Conference will once again converge at the Casowasco Camp & Retreat Center in Moravia for its annual gathering.

This year marks the fifth annual gathering of the UNY UMM and the 68th annual conference-wide UMM fall gathering under prior and current Conference names.

The event will be held Friday, Sept. 5 through Sunday, Sept. 7.

"Lead Like Jesus" is this year’s theme. Conference UMM President Mark Jones said the workshops are designed to “guide men in exploring their personal response to Jesus’ call to follow Him and embrace the principles of servant leadership.”

In addition to great music, food and fellowship, Jones said “our weekend together will include … a time for personal reflection on the heart, attitudes and habits of a servant leader; an opportunity to experience the power and value of small group support; the opportunity to grow through the exchange of ideas, experiences, successes and failures in learning to ‘Lead like Jesus’; and, finally, guidance in developing a personal next step game plan for when we return to our churches and communities and workplaces to those we love and lead.”

Keynote speaker the Rev. John Aukema is one of the 500 “Lead like Jesus” facilitators worldwide. He has taught youth and adult Christian education classes in local churches and has equipped church members to lead discipling experiences, Bible studies and Sunday school classes. “Rev. Aukema has a passion to share the love of God through Jesus the Christ,” Jones said.

“This program is a prayerful response to our asking God to raise up leaders throughout the Upper New York Conference.”

You can read more about the program at www.LeadLikeJesus.com.

The cost of the full weekend ranges from a commuter rate of $80 (which includes all meals) to a weekend stay in Galilee of $195, plus $15 for the “Lead Like Jesus” workbook. There are several other options available that vary in price between those two.

The registration deadline is Aug. 23; deposits must also be received by that date. The registration form for the fall gathering is available online at the Conference UMM website; mail it and your payment to David Evans, 44 Blackburn Court, New Hartford, N.Y. 13413.
