Challenge pits districts against each other to raise funds for Imagine No Malaria

April 8, 2015 / By Kathleen Rubino / .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

The spring District Day challenges are complete, and each district rose to the challenge: to raise more money than the district before it. The challenges raise money for Imagine No Malaria, an effort to eliminate malaria deaths in Africa by 2016.

The $1 million campaign for Imagine No Malaria is one half of Upper New York Conference’s Africa 360 challenge, a holistic campaign to provide ministry to the people of Africa. The other half of the challenge is the Conference’s pledge to raise $1 million for Africa University scholarships.

Crossroads, Finger Lakes/Genesee Valley, Oneonta, Niagara Frontier, and Mohawk districts participated, and each district was challenged to increase the amount raised by the district prior. The Mohawk District, as the last District Day of the spring, was challenged to beat the Niagara Frontier District’s $357 total. The district rose to the challenge and more than doubled the total, raising $728 – thanks in part to Mohawk District Lay Leader Mark Adsit, who contributed the final $50.

Here are the total funds raised by each district:

    • Jan. 31 – Finger Lakes/Genesee Valley: $400
    • Jan. 31 – Crossroads: $230
    • Jan. 31 – Oneonta: $280
    • Feb. 28 – Niagara Frontier: $357
    • March 21 – Mohawk Valley: $728

For the districts that did not compete in this round of challenges – and for those that want a chance to fundraise some more – there will be opportunities to compete against other districts in fundraising challenges at the 2015 session of Annual Conference.
