Grant cycle open to support ministries with the poor

July 10, 2015 / By Christian Vischi / .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

All ministries affiliated with the Upper New York Conference that are doing ministry with the poor are invited to apply for program funding through the Reaching Our Neighbors Mission Oversight Team (RON MOT).

The application form can be downloaded here; the deadline to submit is Aug. 15.

Two copies must be submitted: an electronic copy to reachingourneighbors@outlook.com and a print copy to Susan G. Hardy, 8840 Harmon Hill Road, Fredonia, N.Y. 14063. Successful applicants will be notified by Sept. 15 of the Conference resources to be awarded.

The focus of RON MOT is on building relationships with our neighbors in all places, particularly with those who have been disenfranchised by mainstream society, according to RON MOT member Susan Hardy.

During the 2014 funding cycle, RON MOT awarded $59,776 in grants to 13 Conference ministries from among 29 applicants.

    Application process

As part of a concise application, applicants are asked to be prepared to explain:

    • how the program has identified specific community concerns
    • why the program is the appropriate response to those concerns
    • which activities will lead to changed lives/relationships
    • how Conference resources will support such changes

Applications will also seek details about the following:

    • the 2015 budget for the ministry
    • all current funding sources
    • evidence of collaboration with other groups
    • current board of directors

    About the Ministry Oversight Teams

In order to support the development and effectiveness of Conference ministries, the Conference Leadership Team (CLT) created three Ministry Oversight Teams (MOTs) to align Conference resources, both human and financial, with ministries in three areas:

    • Leaders: through the Spiritual Formation and Leadership Development MOT
    • Congregations: through the Empowering the Local Church MOT
    • Neighbors: through the Reaching Our Neighbors MOT

RON MOT has worked to build skills and share successful practices among ministry programs through events such as the six regional grant-writing workshops in fall of 2013 and winter of 2014.
