Special Meals at Annual Conference
If your group or organization is hosting a meal or special event during the 2019 Annual Conference, June 5-8 at Syracuse Oncenter, submit information about your event to email@example.com.
The 2019 Palestinian Dinner buffet will be held Friday, June 7 at 5:15 p.m. at Plymouth Congregational Church, located at 232 East Onondaga Street in Syracuse (approximately two and half blocks away from the Oncenter). The dinner buffet is sponsored by the UNY-UM Task Force on Peace with Justice in Palestine/Israel. The dinner features an authentic Palestinian menu, prepared by Nujoud Makhlouf. The dinner cost of $20.00 will contribute to four Jerusalem/Bethlehem-area schools and health facilities, plus the Gary Bergh Scholarship for "justice-awareness" travel to the Holy Land, and to ongoing Task Force work. Because Gaza continues to be electricity-starved, donations for solar Luci-Lites will also be accepted.
This year's speaker is Palestinian American lawyer and human rights activist, Huwaida Arraf. In 2001 she co-founded the International Solidarity Movement. She recently returned from leading an "Eyewitness Palestine" delegation to Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory. Her topic will focus on "Current Human Rights Abuses". The dinner occurs at a time when Gazans continue their " Great March of Return" border demonstrations for freedom, West Bank Palestinians are dealing with increased Israeli encroachment on their territory and their lives, and the Red Cross's assessment reports that Gaza will be uninhabitable by 2020. Dinner donations are one small step of support.
Reservations are being accepted through June 3. Contact either Linda Bergh at (315) 492-8507 or mail a check to 116 Edna Rd., Syracuse, NY 13205 or Karen Peterson (607) 739-3141 or mail a check to 116 Greenridge Dr., Horseheads, NY 14845. Make checks out to UNYAC with "Palestinian Dinner" in the memo line. All are welcome-- members of the Annual Conference, members of area churches and faith communities, and members of the community at large--young and old and in- between. Plymouth is handicapped accessible.
The Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School Luncheon is for alums, students, and friends. A free lunch will be provided from Thursday, June 6 during lunch (approximately 12:15 pm) at the Everson Museum (kitty corner to the Oncenter) at 401 Harrison Street in Syracuse. Please send your RSVP to Debbie Diederich at (585) 340-9643 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
