There are 85 United Methodist Churches in the Northern Flow District, We cover five counties: Franklin, St. Lawrence, Jefferson, northern Oswego and northern Lewis. Our name comes from the twelve or more rivers that flow in a northerly direction. Our diversity is informed by a long shared border with Canada, the military presence of Ft. Drum, tourism and seasonal occupants, the Mohawk church at Hogansburg, and six colleges and universities. The breath-taking scenery includes the northern Adirondacks, the castles of the 1,000 Islands, windmill farms, and the lakers and salties plying the St. Lawrence Seaway.
All of our churches are considered "small" by denominational standards, but we are mighty in ministry and mission. Almost every church is involved in a feeding ministry. There is outreach to inmates and their families at the numerous incarceration facilities. Support for camping, especially at Aldersgate is big. Congregations have found a variety of ways to be in ministry with military families. VIM teams go forth each year and this district has a long history of meeting our connectional obligations.
